How to get promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Army Promotion to W-2 Chief Warrant Officer 2

A Chief Warrant Officer 2 is a Warrant Officer in the United States Army at DoD paygrade W-2. This page describes how the Army determines who is eligible for the promotion list to Chief Warrant Officer 2.

Chief Warrant Officers are appointed upon the recommendation of the Secretary of the Army to the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief.

If a Warrant Officer 1 has displayed consummate professionalism, dedication to duty, and continued expertise in his or her branch of military service, he or she can be recommended for promotion to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2.

Such recommendations are either approved or denied by the Commander-in-Chief. Those that are approved see the President issue a commission to the candidate—the same commission underwritten by the same oath as commissioned officers—making him or her a Chief Warrant Officer 2.
