What is the Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon Decoration?

The Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon was created in March 1998 by order of the Secretary of the Navy. The Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon is awarded for the purpose of recognizing enlisted members of the United States Navy personnel who have served as Recruit Division Commanders. The ribbon is retroactive to October 1995 and recognizes those enlisted members of the U.S. Navy who have served as Recruit Division Commander (RDC) and have completed a successful basic training tour under the Navy Bureau of Education and Training. For the purposes of awarding the Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon, a successful tour is in total of three years of service, in command of at least five divisions, and free of disciplinary action or removal from authority. The life of a RDC is demanding which can easily spend up to 18 hours per day working with recruits, switching roles to act as teacher, counselor, and disciplinarian. Additional awards of the Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon are denoted by service stars.

How Do You Earn the Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon?

The Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon is awarded to U.S Navy personnel who are assigned as a Recruit Divison Commander. To be awarded the ribbon, they must have trained a minimum of five divisions and having spent at least three years as a Recruit Division Commander without disciplinary action or removal from authority.

The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 is a federal law that makes it illegal for any person to falsely claim to be the recipient of certain military awards, "with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit by convincing another that he or she received the award".This decoration is covered by the Stolen Valor act. Fraudulently claiming to have received a Navy Recruit Training Service Ribbon can result in punishment including a fine, imprisonment for not more than one year, or both
